Daberath

Places · Updated 2026-05-06

Daberath is a town in the territory of Issachar, sitting on the boundary with Zebulun and assigned with its pasture-lands to the Levites.

On the border of Zebulun

In the boundary description of Zebulun's lot, Daberath marks a turn in the line: "and it turned from Sarid eastward toward the sunrising to the border of Chisloth-tabor; and it went out to Daberath, and went up to Japhia" (Jos 19:12). The town lies along Zebulun's eastern frontier, where the border traces past Tabor.

A Levitical city of Issachar

When Issachar's allotment is parceled out to the Levites, Daberath is one of the named towns: "And out of the tribe of Issachar, Kishion with its suburbs, Daberath with its suburbs" (Jos 21:28). The Chronicler repeats the assignment in slightly different company: "and out of the tribe of Issachar, Kedesh with its suburbs, Daberath with its suburbs" (1Ch 6:72). The town and its surrounding pasture belong to the Levitical inheritance within Issachar's territory.
