Dalmanutha
Dalmanutha is named only once. It is the destination across the Sea of Galilee after the feeding of the four thousand, identified by region rather than by city walls or population.
A Crossing on the Sea of Galilee
The verse marks a transition between miracle and confrontation. Jesus and his disciples leave the eastern side of the lake and reach the opposite shore: "And right away he entered into the boat with his disciples, and came into the parts of Dalmanutha" (Mr 8:10). The phrase "the parts of" frames Dalmanutha as a district — a stretch of coast — rather than a single settlement. The crossing places the next exchange (the demand for a sign) on the western side, but the place itself plays no further role; it is named for its position in the itinerary.
