Darkon

People · Updated 2026-05-06

Darkon is the head of one of the families counted among "Solomon's slaves" in the post-exilic register, named in two parallel returnee-lists. The bare name appears with no narrative — only its place between two other family names, repeated almost verbatim across the two rosters.

In the Returnee Roster

Ezra's list of those who came up with Zerubbabel places Darkon between Jaalah and Giddel within the catalogue of the descendants of Solomon's slaves: "the sons of Jaalah, the sons of Darkon, the sons of Giddel" (Ezra 2:56). The same family appears in Nehemiah's parallel roll with a slight spelling shift in the neighboring name: "the sons of Jaala, the sons of Darkon, the sons of Giddel" (Neh 7:58). The two lists agree on Darkon and on the order of the surrounding houses.
