Despair

Despair is the collapse of hope under affliction — the heart's verdict that suffering will not lift, that God has withdrawn, or that life is no longer worth keeping. Scripture records the experience honestly in figures like Moses, Elijah, Jonah, and Job, and answers it not by denying the weight but by directing the sufferer to consolation, resignation to God's hand, and the promises made to the righteous.
