Diblaim

People · Updated 2026-05-07

Diblaim appears once, named only as the father of the woman Hosea is told to marry. The notice is brief — a paternal patronymic — and serves to identify Gomer at the moment Hosea takes her as wife.

Father of Hosea's Wife

The single mention falls at the start of Hosea's narrative obedience to the prophetic command: "So he went and took Gomer the daughter of Diblaim; and she became pregnant, and bore him a son" (Hos 1:3). Beyond this patronymic Diblaim has no recorded acts; he stands behind his daughter as the means of her identification.
