Dibri

People · Updated 2026-05-07

Dibri appears once, named only by the patronymic that identifies his daughter Shelomith as the mother of the man brought to Moses for blaspheming the name. He is placed in the tribe of Dan; nothing else is recorded about him.

Father of Shelomith

The single notice falls inside the report of the blasphemy in the camp: "and the son of the Israeli woman blasphemed the name, and cursed; and they brought him to Moses. And his mother's name was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan" (Lev 24:11). Dibri is named to fix his daughter's lineage — Danite, not Egyptian — at the moment the case is brought to Moses.
