Dill is a garden herb cited in UPDV in two sayings of Jesus directed at the Pharisees. At Matthew 15:23 Jesus says, "you tithe mint and dill and cumin, and have left undone the weightier matters of the law, justice, and mercy, and faith." The parallel at Luke 11:42 reads, "you tithe mint and dill and every herb, and pass over justice and the love of God."

In both sayings dill stands alongside other tithed herbs as an example of minute religious observance contrasted with larger ethical obligations. A UPDV footnote on Luke 11:42 notes that the Greek text at that verse reads "rue" and treats "dill" as a variant exception.
