Dophkah

Places · Updated 2026-05-07

Dophkah is one of the named camping stations in the wilderness itinerary of Numbers 33. It appears once, in the sequence of stops the Israelites made between leaving the wilderness of Sin and continuing toward Sinai.

A Stop on the Wilderness Itinerary

The notice is brief: "And they journeyed from the wilderness of Sin, and encamped in Dophkah" (Nu 33:12). The verse fixes the place by what comes immediately before it — the wilderness of Sin — and locates Dophkah as the next encampment in the chapter's catalogue of stages. Nothing else is said about it; the name's whole role in scripture is to mark a single overnight stop on the route.
