Dura
Dura is the Babylonian plain on which Nebuchadnezzar erects the great gold image whose dedication occupies Daniel 3.
The plain of the image
The book sets the scene with the dimensions and the location together: "Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, whose height was threescore cubits, and its width six cubits: he set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon" (Da 3:1). The plain belongs to the province, the image belongs to the plain, and the dedication that follows — with its herald, its catalogue of instruments, and its threat of the burning fiery furnace — belongs to that fixed place.
