Elamites

The Elamites take their name from Elam, a son of Shem. The people group and the district that bears their name descend from this single eponymous ancestor in the Table of Nations.

Descent from Shem

The Table of Nations places Elam at the head of Shem's sons: "The sons of Shem: Elam, and Asshur, and Arpachshad, and Lud, and Aram" (Gen 10:22). His name is given to the district of Elam, and the people who occupy it carry the patriarch's name forward.
