Elasah
The umbrella collects three men named Elasah (also spelled Eleasah in UPDV) — one in the Judahite genealogies of Chronicles, one a royal envoy in Jeremiah, and one a returnee under Ezra who had taken a foreign wife.
Son of Helez
In the Judahite genealogy of Chronicles, the line of Jerahmeel runs through Helez to Eleasah: "and Azariah begot Helez, and Helez begot Eleasah" (1Ch 2:39).
Son of Shaphan
A second Elasah serves Zedekiah as one of two royal messengers carrying Jeremiah's letter to the exiles in Babylon: "by the hand of Elasah the son of Shaphan, and Gemariah the son of Hilkiah (whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent to Babylon to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon), saying" (Jer 29:3).
Son of Pashhur
A third Elasah appears in Ezra's list of those of priestly descent who had married foreign women: "And of the sons of Pashhur: Elioenai, Maaseiah, Ishmael, Nethanel, Jozabad, and Elasah" (Ezr 10:22).
