Elead
Elead appears in the Ephraimite genealogy as one of two descendants killed in a cattle raid against the men of Gath, an incident the Chronicler pauses on to mark Ephraim's grief.
Killed by the Men of Gath
The genealogy of Ephraim turns abruptly into narrative when it reaches Elead. Listed alongside Ezer, he is named as a victim of a border attack: "and Zabad his son, and Shuthelah his son, and Ezer, and Elead, whom the men of Gath who were born in the land slew, because they came down to take away their cattle" (1Ch 7:21). The Chronicler does not develop Elead beyond the death itself; what follows is the family's response — "And Ephraim their father mourned many days, and his brothers came to comfort him" (1Ch 7:22) — fixing Elead in the line as one whose loss interrupts the genealogy with a remembered grief.
