Elishua

People · Updated 2026-05-06

Elishua is one of the sons born to David in Jerusalem after his consolidation of the kingdom there. His name appears in the Samuel-Chronicles parallel lists of David's sons and is connected to a variant form preserved in another Davidic genealogy.

A Son of David Born in Jerusalem

In the roll of David's Jerusalem-born sons, Elishua follows Ibhar: "and Ibhar, and Elishua, and Nepheg, and Japhia," (2Sa 5:15). The Chronicler echoes the same pairing in a slightly shorter list: "and Ibhar, and Elishua, and Elpelet," (1Ch 14:5).

Variant Form in the Davidic Genealogy

A parallel genealogy in 1 Chronicles 3 gives the name in the form Elishama at the same position in the list: "and Ibhar, and Elishama, and Eliphelet," (1Ch 3:6). The two lists place a son named Ibhar first, with Elishua / Elishama in the second slot.
