Eltolad
Eltolad is a town in the southern allotment of Judah that was reassigned to Simeon when its tribe took its inheritance within Judah's territory. A shorter form of the name, Tolad, appears in the Chronicler's parallel.
A Town of Judah Allotted to Simeon
Eltolad stands in the list of Judah's southernmost cities: "and Eltolad, and Chesil, and Hormah," (Jos 15:30). When Simeon's lot is drawn from within Judah's portion, the same town reappears in Simeon's roster: "and Eltolad, and Bethul, and Hormah," (Jos 19:4).
The Form Tolad
In the Chronicler's review of Simeon's settlements, the name appears in the shortened form Tolad: "and at Bilhah, and at Ezem, and at Tolad," (1Ch 4:29).
