Eluzai

Eluzai was a Benjamite warrior who joined David at Ziklag during the period when David was a fugitive from Saul.

A Benjamite at Ziklag

The Chronicler opens the roster by identifying the company: "Now these are those who came to David to Ziklag, while he yet kept himself close because of Saul the son of Kish; and they were among the mighty men, his helpers in war" (1Ch 12:1) — ambidextrous archers and slingers "of Saul's brothers of Benjamin" (1Ch 12:2). Eluzai's name appears within this Benjamite block: "Eluzai, and Jerimoth, and Bealiah, and Shemariah, and Shephatiah the Haruphite" (1Ch 12:5). The verse names him without further detail; his identification rests on his place inside the Benjamite list of those who attached themselves to David before his accession to the throne.
