Enam

Places · Updated 2026-05-07

Enam is a town in the lowland district of Judah's allotment. It is named once, in the Shephelah city list of Joshua 15.

A Lowland City of Judah

The Judahite lowland list opens with "Eshtaol, and Zorah, and Ashnah" (Josh 15:33) and then continues, "and Zanoah, and En-gannim, Tappuah, and Enam, Jarmuth, and Adullam, Socoh, and Azekah, and Shaaraim, and Adithaim, and Gederah, and Gederothaim; fourteen cities with their villages" (Josh 15:34-36). Enam is one of those fourteen — a settlement grouped with its neighbors in the southwestern lowland country between the hill country and the Philistine plain. The text gives no further detail; the city's only attestation is its name on this roll.
