Erech

Erech surfaces once in scripture, named among the first cities of the post-flood world. The Table of Nations places it in the kingdom of Nimrod, where the early seats of Mesopotamian power are gathered together in a single sweep.

A City of Shinar

Genesis catalogs Nimrod's beginnings in the plain of Babel: "And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, Erech, and Accad--all of them in the land of Shinar" (Gen 10:10). The verse links Erech with Babel and Accad as fellow cities of Shinar, framing it as one of the earliest centers of organized human settlement after the flood.
