Eri
Eri is one of the seven sons of Gad who went down to Egypt with Jacob's household, and the eponymous head of a Gadite clan.
A son of Gad in the migration to Egypt
The Genesis genealogy of those who entered Egypt with Jacob lists Eri among Gad's sons: "And the sons of Gad: Zephon, and Haggi, Shuni, and Ezbon, Eri, and Arodi, and Areli" (Genesis 46:16).
The Erites in the wilderness census
A generation later, in the second wilderness census, Eri's descendants are counted as a distinct clan within Gad: "of Ozni, the family of the Oznites; of Eri, the family of the Erites" (Numbers 26:16). The personal name from Genesis becomes the clan name in Numbers.
