Ezbon

People · Updated 2026-05-06

Two men bear the name Ezbon: a son of Gad in the family of Jacob, and a son of Bela in the genealogy of Benjamin.

Ezbon son of Gad

In the list of those who went down with Jacob into Egypt, Ezbon stands among Gad's seven sons: "And the sons of Gad: Zephon, and Haggi, Shuni, and Ezbon, Eri, and Arodi, and Areli" (Ge 46:16). In the wilderness census the same clan-line appears under the name Ozni: "of Ozni, the family of the Oznites; of Eri, the family of the Erites" (Nu 26:16) — the same family in Gad's roll, listed under its variant name.

Ezbon son of Bela

A second Ezbon is reckoned in Benjamin's genealogy as a son of Bela. "And the sons of Bela: Ezbon, and Uzzi, and Uzziel, and Jerimoth, and Iri, five; heads of fathers' houses, mighty men of valor; and they were reckoned by genealogy twenty and two thousand and thirty and four" (1Ch 7:7).
