Ezem
Ezem (also spelled Azem) is a town in the southern allotment, listed in the Joshua border-lists and again in the Chronicler's tribal genealogy. UPDV preserves the form "Ezem" at all three occurrences. See also Azem.
In the southern towns of Judah
The town first appears in Joshua's catalogue of cities in the south of Judah, in a short triplet: "Baalah, and Iim, and Ezem," (Jos 15:29). It sits inside the Judah-allotment list of southern towns.
In Simeon's allotment
The same site reappears in Simeon's allotment a few chapters later, again as part of a short list of named towns: "and Hazar-shual, and Balah, and Ezem," (Jos 19:3). The double mention places it inside the Simeon-within-Judah arrangement common to that section of the Joshua territories.
In the Simeonite settlement roll
The Chronicler's parallel roll of Simeonite towns lists it among the settlements held by the tribe: "and at Bilhah, and at Ezem, and at Tolad," (1Ch 4:29). The repetition across the three lists fixes Ezem as a recognized place-name in the southern tribal records.
