Falcon
The falcon is one of the carnivorous birds named in the dietary lists of Leviticus and Deuteronomy. UPDV renders it as "falcon" in both passages, set among the birds Israel was forbidden to eat.
Among the Unclean Birds
In the Levitical list, the falcon appears alongside the kite: "and the kite, and the falcon after its kind" (Le 11:14). The "after its kind" clause sweeps in the related raptors as a class, not a single species.
The Deuteronomic parallel keeps the same grouping but lists three names side by side: "and the glede, and the falcon, and the kite after its kind" (De 14:13). The falcon stands between the glede and the kite, again with "after its kind" extending the prohibition across the family.
