Gaba
A city of Canaan allotted to Benjamin, also called Geba. The name appears in the UPDV under the Geba spelling at every reference, both in the original allotment and in the post-exilic registers of those who returned.
Allotment to Benjamin
Geba is listed in the inheritance assigned to Benjamin alongside its neighbors, completing the count of the tribe's cities: "and Chephar-ammoni, and Ophni, and Geba; twelve cities with their villages" (Jos 18:24).
Returnees from Exile
After the captivity, the men of Geba are counted in the registers of those who came back. Ezra's list pairs the town with Ramah: "The sons of Ramah and Geba, six hundred twenty and one" (Ezr 2:26). Nehemiah's parallel register gives the identical figure: "The men of Ramah and Geba, six hundred twenty and one" (Ne 7:30). The town is thus continuous from the early allotment through the rebuilding of the post-exilic community.
