Gaddi

Gaddi son of Susi is named once in the muster of the twelve men sent to scout Canaan. He stands for the Joseph-tribe of Manasseh in that delegation, and the verse fixes both his patronymic and his tribal place.

The Manasseh Spy

The list of scouts pairs each man with his tribe, and Gaddi is the entry for Manasseh: "Of the tribe of Joseph, [namely], of the tribe of Manasseh, Gaddi the son of Susi" (Num 13:11). The bracketed clarification keeps Joseph and Manasseh in their proper relation — Manasseh under the broader Joseph designation — and Gaddi, son of Susi, is set forward as the chief from that tribe in the scouting party.
