Galbanum
Galbanum appears once in scripture, named as one of the sweet spices that go into the holy incense compounded for the sanctuary.
An Ingredient of the Holy Incense
The recipe is given to Moses by direct command, and galbanum stands among the four equal-weight ingredients: "And Yahweh said to Moses, Take to you sweet spices, stacte, and onycha, and galbanum; sweet spices with pure frankincense: of each there will be a like weight" (Ex 30:34). The list places galbanum third — after stacte and onycha — and pairs the three "sweet spices" with pure frankincense, all to be measured out in equal proportion. Galbanum's only scriptural appearance, then, is here as one of the named gums in the sacred-incense compound.
