Gath-Rimmon
Gath-Rimmon is the name of two distinct towns in the UPDV. One sits in the coastal Danite allotment alongside Jehud, Azor, and Bene-berak. The other lies in the half-tribe of Manasseh and is reassigned to the Kohathite Levites; in the Chronicler's parallel list this Manassite town surfaces under the name Bileam. Both towns appear only in geographical lists — there is no narrative episode set at either one — so the umbrella is essentially a small dossier of allotment and Levitical-city rosters.
Gath-Rimmon in Dan
The Danite Gath-Rimmon belongs to the seventh lot of the tribal-allotment cycle. "The seventh lot came out for the tribe of the sons of Dan according to their families" (Jos 19:40), and within that lot the surveyor lists "Jehud, and Azor, and Bene-berak, and Gath-rimmon" (Jos 19:45). UPDV simply names the town in the running list of Dan's coastal-plain inheritance; no further note attaches to it here.
Gath-Rimmon in Manasseh, Given to the Levites
A second Gath-Rimmon stands in the territory of the half-tribe of Manasseh and is one of the towns the tribes hand over to the Levites. Joshua 21 itemises the cities given to the Kohathite clans out of Dan and half-Manasseh: "And out of the tribe of Dan, Elteke with its suburbs, Gibbethon with its suburbs, Aijalon with its suburbs, and Jibleam with its suburbs; four cities. And out of the half-tribe of Manasseh, Taanach with its suburbs, and Gath-rimmon with its suburbs; two cities" (Jos 21:23-25). Gath-Rimmon is paired with Taanach as the half-Manasseh contribution to the Kohathite settlement.
The Chronicler's Parallel and the Name "Bileam"
The Chronicler retells the same Levitical roster. "And some of the families of the sons of Kohath had cities of their borders out of the tribe of Ephraim" (1Ch 6:66), and the list moves through the Danite and Manassite donations: "and Aijalon with its suburbs, and Gath-rimmon with its suburbs" (1Ch 6:69). The very next verse continues into half-Manasseh and there names the same Manassite Kohathite town under a different label: "and out of the half-tribe of Manasseh, Aner with its suburbs, and Bileam with its suburbs, for the rest of the family of the sons of Kohath" (1Ch 6:70). The Joshua list at 21:25 calls this Manassite Kohathite city Gath-Rimmon; the Chronicler at 6:70 calls it Bileam. The two passages stand together as parallel Levitical-city rosters, and the alternation between Gath-Rimmon and Bileam is a feature of how the same town is named across the two lists.
