Gederah

Places · Updated 2026-05-08

Gederah is a town of the Judean lowland, listed in Joshua's allotment of the Shephelah and named again as a potter-settlement in the Chronicler's Judahite genealogy.

In the Joshua roll of Judah's lowland cities it appears alongside Shaaraim, Adithaim, and Gederothaim: "and Shaaraim, and Adithaim, and Gederah, and Gederothaim; fourteen cities with their villages" (Jos 15:36).

The Chronicler later locates a settlement of royal craftsmen at the same name: "These were the potters, and the inhabitants of Netaim and Gederah: there they dwelt with the king for his work" (1Ch 4:23).
