Giah

Places · Updated 2026-05-07

Giah is a place named once in scripture, marking a landmark on the route from Hebron toward Gibeon during the early conflict between the houses of David and Saul.

On the Pursuit Toward the Wilderness of Gibeon

The sole notice fixes Giah as a geographic reference point in Joab's pursuit of Abner: "But Joab and Abishai pursued after Abner: and the sun went down when they had come to the hill of Ammah, that lies before Giah by the way of the wilderness of Gibeon" (2Sa 2:24). The verse uses Giah to locate the hill of Ammah; the place is otherwise unattested in the Hebrew scriptures, surviving only as the orienting feature beside the road that led Joab's men to where the day's pursuit broke off.
