Gibbar

People · Updated 2026-05-07

Gibbar is named once, as the head of one of the families whose descendants returned from the Babylonian exile under Zerubbabel.

A Family in the Return

In the roster of those who came back with Zerubbabel, the line reads: "The sons of Gibbar, ninety and five" (Ezra 2:20). The corresponding figure in the parallel list of returnees is sometimes presented under a closely related place-name (see Gibeon), but the Ezra register fixes the count at ninety-five and identifies the household by Gibbar himself. Nothing further about the man is recorded.
