Gilalai

Gilalai appears once, in the company of priestly musicians who marched at the dedication of the rebuilt wall of Jerusalem.

A Priest and Musician

In the second of the two great processions Nehemiah arranges around the wall, Zechariah the priest's brothers walk after him with David's musical instruments: "and his brothers, Shemaiah, and Azarel, Milalai, Gilalai, Maai, Nethanel, and Judah, Hanani, with the musical instruments of David the man of God; and Ezra the scribe was before them" (Neh 12:36). Gilalai is named in this priestly-musician group, set immediately after Milalai and immediately before Maai. Beyond this single roster, nothing of him is preserved.
