Gittah-Hepher

Places · Updated 2026-05-07

Gittah-hepher is a lengthened form of the place-name Gath-hepher. UPDV uses the shorter form throughout; the lengthened spelling appears only as an older transliteration of the same site.

On the Border of Zebulun

The town sits on the eastern stretch of Zebulun's tribal border: "and from there it passed along eastward to Gath-hepher, to Eth-kazin; and it went out at Rimmonah stretching to Neah;" (Josh 19:13). The verse marks Gath-hepher as a way-point between Eth-kazin and Rimmonah on the run of Zebulun's frontier; in older English versions the same location is named "Gittah-hepher."
