Guni
Two men in scripture bear the name Guni. The first is a son of Naphtali whose line gives rise to the clan of the Gunites; the second is a Gadite ancestor whose grandson is named among the chiefs of his fathers' houses.
Guni son of Naphtali
Guni is listed among the sons of Naphtali in the Genesis register: "And the sons of Naphtali: Jahzeel, and Guni, and Jezer, and Shillem" (Gen 46:24). The same group is repeated, with Guni's descent organized into a family-name, in the wilderness census: "The sons of Naphtali after their families: of Jahzeel, the family of the Jahzeelites; of Guni, the family of the Gunites" (Num 26:48). The Chronicler again names him among Naphtali's sons: "The sons of Naphtali: Jahziel, and Guni, and Jezer, and Shallum, the sons of Bilhah" (1Chr 7:13). The three lists agree on Guni's place in the line; the Chronicler also marks the maternal descent through Bilhah.
Guni in the Gadite genealogy
A separate Guni stands two generations above a Gadite chief: "Ahi the son of Abdiel, the son of Guni, chief of their fathers' houses" (1Chr 5:15). The verse identifies him only by relation — father of Abdiel, grandfather of Ahi, who heads his fathers' houses among the Gadites.
