Habaziniah

Habaziniah is named once, as the grandfather of Jaazaniah, the Rechabite leader whom Jeremiah brought into the temple chambers to test the family's pledge against wine. The UPDV spells the name Habazziniah.

Forefather of the Rechabite tested by Jeremiah

The Rechabite episode opens with a divine instruction to bring the family into the house of Yahweh and offer them wine. Jeremiah names the man he gathered through three generations: "Then I took Jaazaniah the son of Jeremiah, the son of Habazziniah, and his brothers, and all his sons, and the whole house of the Rechabites" (Jer 35:3). Habazziniah is the patrilineal anchor — Jaazaniah's grandfather, distinguishing this Jaazaniah from others — and stands at the head of the line through which the Rechabite house is identified for the test that follows in Jer 35:5: "Drink⁺ wine."
