Hachmoni

People · Updated 2026-05-06

Hachmoni is named in the Chronicler's lists of David's circle. He is not the actor in either reference; what is recorded is the house he heads — sons of his line in service to the king, both in the army and in the household.

A Hachmonite chief of the mighty men

The roster of David's mighty men opens with a son of this house at its head. "And this is the number of the mighty men whom David had: Jishbaal, the son of a Hachmonite, chief of the elite troops; he lifted up his spear against three hundred and slew them at one time" (1 Chr 11:11). The Hachmonite line gives David the chief of his elite troops — a single warrior credited with three hundred slain at a stroke.

Jehiel the son of Hachmoni with the king's sons

In the closing administrative summary of David's reign, another son of the same house is set in the royal household. "Also Jonathan, David's uncle, was a counselor, a man of understanding, and a scribe: and Jehiel the son of Hachmoni was with the king's sons" (1 Chr 27:32). Jehiel's role is paired in the same verse with Jonathan the counselor and scribe, placing the Hachmonites among the trusted men around the king's family.
