Hadrach
Hadrach is a region in Syria named once in scripture, at the head of a prophetic oracle directed at the lands north of Israel.
A district of Syria
The burden of Zechariah 9 opens by setting Hadrach alongside Damascus as the first object of the word of Yahweh: "The burden of the word of Yahweh on the land of Hadrach, and Damascus [will be] its resting-place (for the eye of man and of all the tribes of Israel is toward Yahweh)" (Zec 9:1). The pairing locates Hadrach in the Syrian hinterland of Damascus, and the oracle that follows extends the same word of judgment to Tyre, Sidon, and the Philistine coast. Hadrach itself is not described further; it functions as the northern starting point from which the prophetic survey moves south.
