Hagab

People · Updated 2026-05-07

Hagab is the head of one of the families of temple servants whose descendants returned from Babylonian exile under Zerubbabel.

A family of the Nethinim

The list of returnees in Ezra 2 enrolls the temple servants by household. Hagab appears among them: "the sons of Hagab, the sons of Shamlai, the sons of Hanan" (Ezr 2:46). The name occurs only in this register, and only as the eponym of a family group. Nothing else is recorded of him; his place in scripture is the bare fact that his descendants were counted among those who came back to serve at the rebuilt house in Jerusalem.
