Haggi
Haggi is one of the sons of Gad and the namesake of a clan in Israel. He himself does no recorded action; what scripture preserves is his place in the family list that goes down into Egypt and the clan that bears his name in the wilderness census a generation later.
A son of Gad
Haggi appears among the sons of Gad in the listing of Jacob's household entering Egypt. "And the sons of Gad: Zephon, and Haggi, Shuni, and Ezbon, Eri, and Arodi, and Areli" (Gen 46:16). His name stands second in the list, between Zephon and Shuni.
The Haggite clan
By the time of the wilderness census, Haggi's descendants form one of the clans counted under Gad. "The sons of Gad after their families: of Zephon, the family of the Zephonites; of Haggi, the family of the Haggites; of Shuni, the family of the Shunites" (Num 26:15). The pairing with Zephon and Shuni is preserved from the Genesis register, and the Haggite clan takes its name directly from him.
