Hammon
Hammon names two distinct cities — one in the territory of Asher, one in the territory of Naphtali — that may, in tradition, stand behind a single underlying place identified elsewhere as Hammath or Hammoth-dor. UPDV preserves the name in both lists.
A city in Asher
Hammon appears in the boundary roll of Asher's inheritance, set among coastal towns running up toward Sidon: "and Adbon, and Rehob, and Hammon, and Kanah, even to great Sidon;" (Jos 19:28). The placement among Rehob, Kanah, and great Sidon locates it in the northern coastal stretch.
A Levitical city in Naphtali
A second Hammon shows up in the Levite distribution, paired with its surrounding pasture-land: "and out of the tribe of Naphtali, Kedesh in Galilee with its suburbs, and Hammon with its suburbs, and Kiriathaim with its suburbs" (1 Ch 6:76). The Naphtali Hammon is one of three towns assigned, with their suburbs, out of that tribe's allotment to the Levites.
