Hammoth-Dor

Hammoth-dor is a Levitical city allotted out of the tribe of Naphtali, listed in the priestly distribution of cities. It appears under closely related forms (Hammath, Hammon) in the parallel registers.

A Levitical City of Naphtali

In the allotment of cities to the Levites from Naphtali, Hammoth-dor is named alongside Kedesh and Kartan: "And out of the tribe of Naphtali, Kedesh in Galilee with its suburbs--the city of refuge for the manslayer, and Hammoth-dor with its suburbs, and Kartan with its suburbs; three cities" (Josh 21:32).

Hammath in the Tribal Allotment

Among the fortified cities of Naphtali, the form Hammath appears in the tribal-allotment list: "And the fortified cities were Ziddim, Zer, and Hammath, Rakkath, and Chinnereth," (Josh 19:35).

Hammon in the Chronicler's List

The Chronicler's parallel register of Levitical cities names the same allotment under the form Hammon: "and out of the tribe of Naphtali, Kedesh in Galilee with its suburbs, and Hammon with its suburbs, and Kiriathaim with its suburbs" (1 Chr 6:76).
