Hamul
Hamul is a son of Perez and grandson of Judah, the eponymous head of the clan of the Hamulites. He appears only in genealogical notices.
Hamul Among the Sons of Judah Going Down to Egypt
In the listing of Jacob's family descending into Egypt, Hamul is named with his brother Hezron as a son of Perez: "And the sons of Judah: Er, and Onan, and Shelah, and Perez, and Zerah; but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan. And the sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul" (Gen 46:12).
Hamul as Clan Head
In the wilderness census, Hamul stands as the head of one of two clans descending from Perez: "And the sons of Perez were: of Hezron, the family of the Hezronites; of Hamul, the family of the Hamulites" (Num 26:21).
Hamul in the Chronicler's Genealogy
The Chronicler's genealogy of Judah preserves the same pairing: "The sons of Perez: Hezron, and Hamul" (1 Chr 2:5).
