Hamutal
Hamutal, daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah, is the queen mother of two of Judah's last kings — Jehoahaz and Zedekiah. She is named in the regnal opening formulas that introduce each son.
Mother of Jehoahaz
When Jehoahaz takes the throne in the closing days of the kingdom, the regnal formula records his mother's identity: "Jehoahaz was twenty and three years old when he began to reign; and he reigned three months in Jerusalem: and his mother's name was Hamutal the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah" (2 Ki 23:31).
Mother of Zedekiah
The same formula reappears for Zedekiah, the last king before the exile: "Zedekiah was twenty and one years old when he began to reign; and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem: and his mother's name was Hamutal the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah" (2 Ki 24:18). Jeremiah's parallel record carries the identical wording: "Zedekiah was one and twenty years old when he began to reign; and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem: and his mother's name was Hamutal the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah" (Jer 52:1).
