Hattil

Hattil is the ancestor of one of the families enrolled among the descendants of Solomon's servants in the post-exilic return-registers. The name appears only in the parallel registers of Ezra 2 and Nehemiah 7, in identical positions within a four-name cluster.

A returned-exile family

The Ezra register places Hattil's house second in a short cluster: "the sons of Shephatiah, the sons of Hattil, the sons of Pochereth-hazzebaim, the sons of Ami." (Ezr 2:57). The Nehemiah parallel keeps the same order, with the closing name in a slightly different spelling: "the sons of Shephatiah, the sons of Hattil, the sons of Pochereth-hazzebaim, the sons of Amon." (Ne 7:59). The two registers preserve Hattil identically while differing only on the final name in the line.
