Helkath

Places · Updated 2026-05-06

Helkath is a town in the territory of Asher, set apart in the allotment of cities to the Levites. The Chronicler's parallel list calls the same place Hukok.

A Border Town in Asher

Helkath stands at the head of a border list when the inheritance of Asher is described: "And their border was Helkath, and Hali, and Beten, and Achshaph" (Josh 19:25).

A Levitical City

In the assignment of cities to the Levites out of Asher, Helkath is one of the four given to the sons of Gershon: "Helkath with its suburbs, and Rehob with its suburbs; four cities" (Josh 21:31). The Chronicler's parallel records the same allotment under the name Hukok: "and Hukok with its suburbs, and Rehob with its suburbs" (1Ch 6:75).
