Henadad
Henadad heads a Levite house active in the post-exilic restoration. He is named not for his own deeds but as the patronymic of sons who supervise temple work, rebuild Jerusalem's wall, and seal the renewed covenant.
Overseers of the temple work
When the foundation of the second temple is laid, the sons of Henadad stand among the Levites entrusted with oversight: "Then Jeshua stood with his sons and his brothers, Kadmiel and Binnui [and] Hodaviah together, to have the oversight of the workmen in the house of God: the sons of Henadad, with their sons and their brothers the Levites" (Ezra 3:9).
Builders of the wall
In Nehemiah's wall-building roster, Binnui son of Henadad is named twice. He works first as a district ruler: "After him repaired their brothers, Binnui the son of Henadad, the ruler of half the district of Keilah" (Neh 3:18). He then takes a second stretch: "After him repaired Binnui the son of Henadad another portion, from the house of Azariah to the turning [of the wall], and to the corner" (Neh 3:24).
Sealers of the covenant
The house remains visible at the covenant-renewal of Nehemiah 10, where representatives sign the document. Among the Levites: "Jeshua the son of Azaniah, Binnui of the sons of Henadad, Kadmiel" (Neh 10:9). Across the four references, Henadad's line is consistently Levitical and consistently engaged in the work of restoration.
