Heshmon
Heshmon is named once, in Joshua's catalogue of the towns allotted to the tribe of Judah. It belongs to the southern set of Judahite cities listed toward the Edomite border.
A Town in Southern Judah
The list opens by setting the geography: "And the uttermost cities of the tribe of the sons of Judah toward the border of Edom in the South were Kabzeel, and Eder, and Jagur," (Jos 15:21). Several verses into that southern roll Heshmon appears, paired with two other named places: "and Hazar-gaddah, and Heshmon, and Beth-pelet," (Jos 15:27). Heshmon stands second of the three, between Hazar-gaddah and Beth-pelet, and is given no further description — only its place in the line of southern cities reckoned to Judah.
