Hillel
Hillel is named in scripture only as the father of Abdon, one of the minor judges. He has no narrative of his own — only a patronymic.
Father of Abdon the Pirathonite
The closing notice on the judgeship of Abdon ties him to his father in both the entry and the death formula: "And after him Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite judged Israel" (Jdg 12:13), and again at the end, "And Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite died, and was buried in Pirathon in the land of Ephraim, in the hill-country of the Amalekites" (Jdg 12:15). Hillel is identified by his hometown, Pirathon, in Ephraim — and through his son's prosperity: "And he had forty sons and thirty sons' sons, that rode on seventy donkey colts: and he judged Israel eight years" (Jdg 12:14).
