Hothir
Hothir is one of the fourteen sons of Heman the king's seer, named in the Levitical music-service rosters of 1 Chronicles 25.
Among Heman's Sons
The Chronicler lists him in the long roster of Heman's house: "Of Heman; the sons of Heman: Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shebuel, and Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, and Romamti-ezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, Mahazioth" (1 Chr 25:4). The fourteen brothers are appointed, with the houses of Asaph and Jeduthun, to the temple's vocal and instrumental service.
The Twenty-First Lot
When the order of service is set by lot, Hothir's name draws the twenty-first turn: "for the one and twentieth to Hothir, his sons and his brothers, twelve" (1 Chr 25:28). Each course numbers twelve, his sons and his brothers serving together as one division in the rotation of singers.
