Imnah

People · Updated 2026-05-06

The umbrella collects two men named Imnah — one in the tribe of Asher, one among the Levites — each named once in Chronicles.

Firstborn of Asher

In the Chronicler's tribal genealogies, Imnah heads the list of Asher's sons: "The sons of Asher: Imnah, and Ishvah, and Ishvi, and Beriah, and Serah their sister" (1Ch 7:30).

Father of a Levitical Officer

A second Imnah is named as the father of Kore, a Levitical gatekeeper given charge of the freewill offerings under Hezekiah's reforms: "And Kore the son of Imnah the Levite, the porter at the east [gate], was over the freewill-offerings of God, to distribute the oblations of Yahweh, and the most holy things" (2Ch 31:14). Imnah himself is identified only by his son's office.
