Irad

Irad belongs to the early genealogy of Genesis, in the descent from Cain through Enoch.

Son of Enoch in the Cainite Line

He appears in a single chained verse: "And to Enoch was born Irad: and Irad begot Mehujael: and Mehujael begot Methushael; and Methushael begot Lamech" (Ge 4:18). The Enoch named here is Cain's son (the city-name Enoch of Ge 4:17), distinct from the Enoch who walked with God in the line of Seth. Irad sits at the second link in that Cainite chain — son of one Enoch, father of Mehujael, and four generations upstream of Lamech.
