Ithran

People · Updated 2026-05-06

Two men named Ithran appear in the genealogies — one in the Horite line of Seir, one in the Asherite line of the Chronicler.

Son of Dishon

The first Ithran is listed in the Edomite-area Horite genealogy of Seir. Genesis names him among the sons of Dishon: "And these are the sons of Dishon: Hemdan and Eshban and Ithran and Cheran" (Gen 36:26). The Chronicler repeats the same line with a small variant in the first name: "The sons of Anah: Dishon. And the sons of Dishon: Hamran, and Eshban, and Ithran, and Cheran" (1Ch 1:41).

Son of Zophah

The second Ithran appears among the descendants of Zophah in the Asher genealogy: "Bezer, and Hod, and Shamma, and Shilshah, and Ithran, and Beera" (1Ch 7:37). The list runs at the end of an Asher block — making this Ithran an Asherite of the Zophah branch, distinct from the Horite Ithran of Seir.
