Jaaziah

Jaaziah is a Levite of the Merarite line whose family is named in the roster of priestly and Levitical courses David organized for temple service. He appears only in the two adjacent verses that fix his place within Merari's house and list his sons.

A Merarite in David's Levitical Roster

The genealogy that introduces the Merarite contribution to the Levitical courses names him among the heads: "The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi; the sons of Jaaziah: Beno" (1 Chr 24:26). The next verse repeats his name with a fuller list of sons: "The sons of Merari: of Jaaziah, Beno, and Shoham, and Zaccur, and Ibri" (1 Chr 24:27). The paired notices set him alongside Mahli and Mushi as a branch of Merari, and his four sons — Beno, Shoham, Zaccur, and Ibri — are gathered into the same course allotment.
